Description
This is the Sand Creek Church of Christ building that sits northeast of the small farming town of Windsor, Illinois. Founded in 1834, the current building was constructed in 1884. Within a few years it became embroiled in an argument over doctrine and practices that eventually led to a legal case before the Illinois Supreme Court. The building has never been modernized and still uses lanterns for evening worship. I recall attending revival meetings there as a child. Although no longer used for worship, the building is maintained in good condition due to its historical importance to the area.
The building actually sits on a hill surrounded by walnut and oak trees. The cemetery sits off to the west, on the slope that goes down to the creek itself.
