Description
Inventory #V2A1564. The Embarras River flows through central Illinois and finally into the Wabash River. The name comes from the French word translated as "an obstacle" and might refer to rivers and streams as well as even piles of debris that might block one's path. So was the Embarras to the early settlers of Illinois. This little river is depicted here in very low water stage, as there was a drought in progress. It is interesting because if one follows its path, it's obvious that it is truly a meander. It flows in nearly every direction - both north and south and even both east and west. This view is from a bridge on a country road south of Greenup, Illinois.
