Description
Inventory #16I1234E. I've seen this tree along one of the paths at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum for years. I had never seen it bloom before. According to Google, it's a coral tree. I think I've also seen it called a flame tree. But on this day there was something special in the tree. The opening blossoms had attracted a hummingbird who hovered in this open space just long enough for me to swing my camera to my eye and snap the shutter.
I think hummers are special. They are very small, yet quite ambitious. They can be very territorial, and I've even had them attack me. They are so fast that usually they are simply a blur in my frame - if they're even in the frame at all! So when I get one this poised, I rejoice!
