Description
Inventory #V2A6023. The gold poppies are the highlight of spring in the Arizona desert. The discussion leading up to the season centers around IF there will be many and WHERE they will be. The winter of 2018-2019 was a record one for rain and cool temperatures, and spring lingered long into April. The desert was alive with poppies, lupine, brittle bush and other blooming spring flowers. Perhaps nowhere was the array as beautiful as around Bartlett Lake to the north and east of Phoenix. I found this small clump of poppies growing out of a clump of scorpion weed. Scorpion weed, despite its name, is actually a beautiful plant with bluish-purple flowers. Their color served as a delightful backdrop for the brilliant, golden poppies.
