Description
Inventory #V2A6246. We heard Chocolate Falls (actual name, Grand Falls) was running! So off we went to find it. It had dropped in volume somewhat during the week, but the water flow was still high enough to be quite impressive. This view is from the top and shows the river coming down the wide expanse of its total drop of 185 feet. At the bottom, the Little Colorado River makes a 90-degree turn and flows west to join the Colorado. The flow over the falls is very intermittent and occurs usually only when there is sufficient winter and spring rain and snowfall and during the summer monsoon season if rains are heavy. The chocolate color comes from the color of the ground over which it flows and the sediment it carries with it. The falls is located about 45 miles outside of Flagstaff, Arizona, on the Navajo Reservation.
