Inventory #V2A7356ACR4x5. This image has been cropped from its original size to a 4x5 proportion.

I was in the Smoky Mountains and the weather was bad - rainy, cold, grey. I was cold and wet and tired of the swish of the windshield wipers. There was a small pull-off at the side of the road, and the sign said, "Quiet Walkway." Another sign a bit further along stated that this trail led nowhere. It had no destination.

So, without destination and without purpose, I began to walk - just me, my camera and God. Without a destination I was free to amble. With all the rain, water ran down the path, itself ambling from side to side. It sort of fit in with my rather out-of-balance way of walking that causes me to wander from side to side of the path instead of in a straight line. I could pick my steps to either avoid the mud or to deliberately splash through the water. And I found myself doing both.

A photographer since the age of 8 when I received my first camera as a gift from my grandmother, I learned the art of photography by studying such current great artists as George Lepp, Dewitt Jones and Art Wolfe. My inspiration is God's beautiful creation, and I attempt to record it faithfully, shooting landscapes, flowers, animals, and anything that captures my fancy. I shot film until 2012 when I purchased my first pro digital camera. Now I do both, and do all of the creation in the camera before the snap. If the image isn't good enough to print as taken, it is discarded instead of being "improved" through Photoshop. I have my own darkroom and love making my own prints from negatives. One of my favorite techniques is to hand paint...
